WHAT IS GOING ON IN TURKEY?
Nationwide demonstrations erupted after Ekrem Imamoglu, the most popular opposition candidate against President Erdogan, was unlawfully arrested.
The Constitution of the Republic of Turkey unequivocally protects the right to hold unarmed and peaceful meetings and demonstration marches without prior permission.
Yet, more than 2,000 people have been detained. 299 people, the majority of whom are college students aged 18 to 22 years old, are in pre-trial detention. Some of the young students have been forced to share cells with dangerous criminals charged with murder. Many students have endured physical, verbal, and sexual abuse at the hands of police officers.
299 people have been arrested and charged with a crime they did NOT commit. We demand our friends to be released!
